You see, this Nigerian meat pie recipe is a delicious snack, which is filled with vegetables (usually potatoes and carrots) and minced meat that is why it is called meat pie.

INGREDIENTS FOR THE MEAT PIE FILLINGS

  1.  300 g of Minced Meat (Ground Beef)
  2. 1medium-sized Onion
  3. 1 Little Garlic (Optional)
  4. 3 Medium-sized Carrots
  5. 2 Medium-sized Irish Potatoes
  6. 1 Tablespoon of Vegetable Oil
  7. Seasoning of your choice (preferably) Maggi, a Teaspoon of Thyme, a Teaspoon of Curry.
  8. 2 Tablespoons of Plain Flour (to make a bind)
  9. 200 ml of Cool Water (more or less)
  10. Salt to taste

INGREDIENTS FOR THE MEAT PIE RECIPE ITSELF

  • 500 g of Plain Flour
  • 250 g of Margarine
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder (leveled)
  • 3/4 Teaspoon of salt
  • 75 ml of Cool Water (as needed to get a stiff dough)

STEP BY STEP PREPARATION FOR THE FILLING


Step 1
Grind or mince the meat. If you haven’t done that yet.

Step 2
Chop the onions and set them aside.

Step 3
Wash and scrape the carrots, peel the Irish potatoes, rinse these vegetables (Carrots & Potatoes) and cut them into tiny cubes sizes.

Step 4
Heat up the oil on medium heat. Then add the chopped onions and garlic, stir a bit, then add the minced meat to the pot and stir continuously until the minced meat loses the pink color.

Step 5
Now, add 1 cup of water to the pot, and add the stock cube, thyme, and curry. Cover the pot and leave to boil for about 10 mins.

Step 6
After 10 mins, then add the diced potatoes, carrots, and salt to taste and leave it to cook until the vegetables are done.

Step 7
Then, dissolve 2 tablespoonfuls of the plain flour in half a cup of cold water.

Step 8
Mix thoroughly and add the mixture to the meat pie filling in the pot, stir very well to get incorporated, then put off the heat and leave to cool.

TIPS:

The reason why I added the flour mixture is to help to bind the filling together and also retain the moisture of the meat pie filling when baking. The alternative is you can use cheese in place of the plain flour.

STEP BY STEP PREPARATION FOR THE MEAT PIE ITSELF

Now, let’s get into the making of the recipe itself.

After you have made the dough, now its time to cut out so/me a piece of dough and roll

STEP 1
Cut out a small piece of dough, roll it with a rolling pin, and cut out.

STEP 2
Then add the meat pie fillings you prepared inside the cut-out dough.

STEP 3
Now, you have to close it and use a fork to make a design on the tip of the meat pie.

STEP 4
Then place them on the pan that you are going to use to bake.

STEP 5
Now you have to rub an egg on the surface of the meat pie, to give it a brown look.

Another is, to use a fork to make holes in the meat pie.

Finally, place the meat pie in the oven and leave it for about 15 to 20 minutes. (Remember, that you have to preheat your oven for about 10 to 15 minutes before you can pop in your meat pie.)
