How to Make The Best Homemade Sausage Roll Recipe at Home

Ingredients For The Sausage Roll Recipe 

  • 500 gr of Plain Flour
  • 250 gr of Butter/Margarine
  • One teaspoon of Baking Powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 75 ml of water
  • Hot Dogs, as many as you want

Now let’s Prepare The Homemade Sausage Roll Dough

Now, we have to prepare the dough for the sausage rolls and for us to do that, I would like to say that if you know how Nigerian meat pie is done, then it is the same as the sausage roll.

1. Sieve the flour in a sizeable bowl; add the baking powder and salt. Then mix these dry ingredients very well.

2. Now, you have to add your butter or margarine. If you are using butter, use your knife to cut it into smaller pieces, making it easier for you to rub them into the flour or help mix well in your mixer.

3. If you don’t have a mixer, this step is for you. You have to use your fingertips to rub the butter/margarine into the flour till the mixture becomes like crumbs.

4. Add cold water in bits and mix until a stiff dough ball is formed. You only need a small amount of water to achieve this step.

Now We Have To Get Our Oven And Pan Ready

1. You have to set your oven to 170º C to preheat while continuing with your sausage roll preparation.

2. In this step, there are two ways to do this: which are:

A) THE USE OF BUTTER: Rub butter on the inside of the pan you are using for the baking, then spray flour on it but remember to pour out the excess flour and set it aside. This process prevents the sides of the sausage rolls from burning or sticking to the pan during the baking process.

B) THE USE OF BAKING PAPER: This process is the easiest; you have to cut out the size of the pan you will use and place it on your pan.

3. Now, break the egg, beat it, and set it aside because you will use it later.

The Final Preparations

Now is the time to roll out your dough.

You can cut to your desired shape on the dough in this step.

Then remove the excess dough, put on your hot dog and roll it.

Now rub the egg on the sausage rolls to give it a golden brown look when it’s done.

Now place your pan in the preheated oven and bake it for about 30 to 40 minutes when it turns golden brown.
