Yamarita is one of my favourite foods. It has a bunch of so much goodness, and I love the taste. They are consum in different parts of the world, with other varieties, and you can consum them in different ways.
It is said to have everlasting plenty, and it is also a mystical food. It even holds a religious place in certain parts of Africa, and even they have an annual festival dedicated to it.
Yamarita is a good source of fibre & is perfect for digestion.
It is also best for pregnant women as they are bundled with good nutrients for both the baby and the mom. They help with premenstrual disorder and menopause. They are also suitable for skin, hair and brain health.
It keeps the heart healthy, reduces anaemia, helps in weight loss, and let’s not forget that they are a prosperous source of carbohydrates.
Now that we know how good Yam is, it will be nice to add it to our diet.
There are many ways to eat Yam: boiling, frying, cakes, etc.
Today I have a fun recipe; I didn’t know this method. Though it’s popular in the Hausa tribe in Nigeria, it’s easy to make and incredibly delicious. They call it Yamarita.
You can eat Yamarita as a snack or as the main meal, depending on how you eat it. And it can be quite filling too.

Ingredients
1 kg of yam
2 Eggs
Three spoons of flour
300 ml vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon of ginger powder
1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
One cube of seasoning
Cayenne pepper
A pinch of salt
Water
Here are 9 Steps To Achieve This Yamarita Recipe
- Peel the Yam into several pieces, preferably rectangular shapes about 1 inch wide and 1/2 inch thick, then rinse and drain.
- Put the Yam in water and boil; the water should not be too much to avoid the Yam getting soft and breaking; add 1/2 teaspoon of Salt and allow to cook.
- Use a fork to check if it’s soft and ok. Then you drop it.
- Drain off the water from the Yam, and set it aside to allow it cool.
- Now you can break the two eggs into a bowl and add the Seasoning, Salt and cayenne pepper to your taste; whisk together and set aside.
- In another bowl, add the Flour, garlic and ginger powder, curry powder, thyme, and black pepper and mix.
- Now, dip the Yam into the egg and flour mixture, respectively and make sure the Yam is well coated.
- Heat the oil and fry the Yam; flip the Yam, so it doesn’t burn. It should be golden brown.
- After frying, you can arrange it on a paper towel to remove excess oil
You can serve it with ketchup, pepper sauce, mayonnaise, grilled chicken or fish or any dipping sauce.
